Notes from the CEO

I have often said that data is the new oil. Whoever owns and processes data will shape the future. And if we look at the world today, the shapers and movers of society have been organizations that are able to accumulate, process and analyze big data to create innovations that improve people’s lives.

For instance, Uber revolutionized the transport industry, drastically improving the quality and safety of daily commute.

Airbnb revolutionized the accommodation industry, by providing travelers with more affordable options and property owners opportunities for passive income.

Amazon revolutionized shopping with its online service, allowing people to buy and own items that are otherwise not available in their area without having to leave their own homes.

These innovations were possible because these organizations could accumulate, analyze and use big data to identify needs and create alternative solutions to answer those needs.

Now imagine if this ability was extended to vital economic sectors like Healthcare and Agriculture? What are the possibilities if we can innovate healthcare services and maximize crop yield?

Developed economies enjoy these benefits. But, there is no incentive for them to share these technological advancements in another country. After all, if they can increase their food production, then it’s more beneficial for them to earn from food exports instead of lending technology that allows another country to compete with them.

For key economic industries such as healthcare and agriculture, a country must rely on its own to develop these industries.

The challenge is that most emerging countries still lack the resources and infrastructure for real-time data accumulation, synchronization, processing and analyses to keep up with the innovations of more developed countries.

How then can we strategically accumulate data and synchronize this data to create innovations in key economic sectors? More importantly, how do we maintain control over national data to improve policies and decision making that benefits citizens?

Unless a country can maintain control and ownership of its nation’s data, it can never be truly independent.

As CEO of Leadeana, it has been my life’s objective to find solutions to these challenges so that developing countries can have the resources to shape their nation’s future.
